IMPACT

Impact: Coffee with a message

At USAWA, we believe great coffee goes beyond taste; it’s a chain of meaning and care, from farm to cup. Every aspect of our process contributes to a positive impact on people and the planet. Here’s how we make a difference:

1. Direct Trade: A Fair Reward

Our specialty coffee starts at the source: the farmers in Tanzania, Colombia, Indonesia, Rwanda, Peru and Brazil. Through the 'direct trade' model, we work directly with them, without intermediaries. This means that the farmers receive a fair price for their labor and efforts. This direct connection not only ensures a better income for the farmers, but also a deeper relationship with them. The result? Coffee of exceptional quality, produced with passion and care.

2. Freshly Roasted, Full of Flavor

The journey of our coffee beans continues in our own coffee roastery shop. Here we roast the beans fresh, so that the authentic flavours and aromas are preserved. This artisanal process, carried out by our master roasters, guarantees that every bag of coffee delivers the highest quality. Smoking and roasting the beans is not just a step; it is an art that captures the soul of the coffee.

3. Social Inclusion: Packaging with Care

When the coffee beans are ready, they are packed by people with physical disabilities. For us, this is more than a logistical process. It is an opportunity to create employment for people who are often excluded from the labour market. Every package carries a story of inclusivity and empowerment.

4. Fully Degradable Packaging

Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t end with the coffee itself. The packaging our coffee beans are delivered in is fully biodegradable. This minimizes our ecological footprint and contributes to a cleaner future for our planet. So drinking our coffee is not only good for you, but also good for the planet.

5. Josephat Torner Foundation

Our impact extends beyond coffee. Together with the Josephat Torner Foundation, we work to improve the living conditions of people with albinism in East Africa. Through activities and support, we contribute to awareness, empowerment and protection of this vulnerable community.

6. Award-winning Sustainability

In 2022, we were recognized for our efforts with the Sustainable Coffee Award in the Taste Test. It is a confirmation of what we stand for: coffee that not only tastes like coffee should taste, but also contributes to a more sustainable world.
